Our Rubbers
A product mastered for over 100 years at Rustin
Flexible, elastic, and durable: rubber owes its success to its unique properties.
Known in its natural state since the late 15th century, it truly became part
of everyday life over 200 years ago. At the beginning of the 20th century, the first synthetic rubbers emerged, paving the way for increasingly technical materials.
Today, thanks to innovative processes, we manufacture high-performance elastomers (silicone, SBR, NBR, EPDM, etc.) with tailor-made properties for precise
applications. As a formulator and manufacturer of blends and finished parts for
several decades, RUSTIN has established itself as a leading expert in the lastomer industry.
Natural Rubber
Natural rubber comes from the processing of latex, a sap naturally produced by
certain plants such as the Hevea tree, primarily cultivated in Southeast Asia. The latex is first filtered, stabilized, and then dried to obtain natural rubber bales. When combined with other components and vulcanized, rubber develops new properties:
• Resistance to tension, tearing, heat, and fatigue
• Elastic rebound
Synthetic Rubber
Synthetic rubbers are obtained by polymerizing monomers derived from
hydrocarbons, mainly petroleum. These monomers, numerous and varied, can be
polymerized alone as pure products or blended with each other. To meet specific
requirements, they are often combined with particular additives, enhancing their
performance: higher elasticity than natural rubber, increased resistance to abrasion, water, UV, oils, or solvents. The formulation of the blend is therefore a key step to ensure the quality and performance of the final product.
